SCC Evaluation, First anniversary of St. Xavier’s Parish

SCC Evaluation, First anniversary of St. Xavier’s Parish

Northeast Region, Detail Report for 2019

Rt. Rev. Stephen Rotluanga, the Bishop of Aizawl is the Chairman of the NE SCC Commission.

  1. SUCCESSES
  2. Making the Zonal Division functional

In the Regional SCC Council Meeting held in Jesuit Novitiate, Barapani on 31st August 2018 presided over by the Chairman Bishop; a decision was taken to focus on making the Zonal division of the dioceses of the region functional.  Accordingly 3 following Zones held meeting along with the Bishops, Vicar Generals, Diocesan coordinators, Fathers, Sisters and lay participants.

  1. Zone 1. Consisting of the dioceses of Aizawl and Agartala held the meeting on 6th November 2018, in Silchar.
  2. Zone 2: Consisting of  Dibrugarh, Itanagar, Meao and Tezpur held its meeting on 11th & 12th June, 2019, in the diocese of Meao.
  3. Zone 3: consisting of Bongaigao, Guwahati and Tura  held its meeting  on 12th and 13th July,  2019.

In the above meetings zonal office bearers were elected to coordinate the SCC works in their respective rezones. Each constituent diocese made their annual plans to promote SCC ministry in a systematic manner. In most of the above dioceses SCC works are progressing as per the plan.

For the other 2 Zones, that is, Zone 4: consisting of Diphu, Imphal and Kohima, and Zone 5: consisting of Jowai, Nongstoin and Shillong process is on to have zonal meetings to make the zonal system functional.

  1. On the proposed plan of introducing SCC as credit course in theologates: the regional secretary (Fr. Hippoletus) shared in Northeast Region Pastoral Conference held in Guwahati from 29th August to 2nd September, and also in the meeting of Bishops of Northeast India held in Shillong on 3rd September, 2019. Concerned authorities have assured to do the needful.

  1. On the proposed plan of organizing the Celebration of 20 Years of SCC Ministry in Northeast consultation and tentative plans have emerged. It is proposed to be held in the 2nd Week of December, 2020 in Guwahati.

  1. Regional Resource Team Training (RRT), Aug 26 to 30, 2019 in Barapani Jesuit Novitiate: In this training 61 participants (Fathers, Sisters and lay leaders) from 10 dioceses took part. The theme was ‘SCCs are ministering communities’. It was animated by Fr. Vijay Thomas and Fr. George Jacob.

5. Meeting of the National Council of SCCs, and workshop on the theme: Prophetic Role of SCCs in Nagpur from February 25 to 28, 2019: Two Fathers from Northeast (Fr. Firose Basumatary/Guwahati Archdiocese and Fr. Hippoletus Toppo) attended the meeting and the Training.

6. One Week Media Course in Nagpur July 2019:  2 Fathers (Fr. Raju Paul Tirkey and Fr. Edward Kujur) attended the course.

7. Events (Trainings, Celebrations, Conventions) at the Diocesan level: Many dioceses held trainings like ‘Introduction Workshop’, ‘team training’, observed annual diocesan and parish level SCC day, SCC Convention, took up ministering the sick, the needy and the old. Some SCC units help each other in planting, harvesting, making roads, and other social services.

8. Participating in the National Level Hindi SCC Convention in Kolkatta, October 24 to 27: 6 Dioceses (Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Dihpu, Itanagar, Guwahati, Meao and Tezpur) participated in the above mentioned Convention. Participating in the Convention.  Inspired by the Convention 4 dioceses are taking some concrete steps to adopt and execute what they learnt in Convention.

9. RST meeting, 12th and 13th December, 2019, held at Aizawl (Mizoram): Apart from the action Plan 2020, some concrete plans were made to make the SCC Commission of the region financially sound.

B. CHALLENGES

  1. Pertaining to dioceses: Not all the dioceses take equal interests in SCCs. A couple of dioceses are not regular for the meetings and trainings held at the regional level and hardly any reports come from these dioceses.
  • 244 parishes, that is, more than half of the parishes of the region are yet to start SCCs.
  1. Pertaining to the religious: Some religious congregations are yet to adopt SCCs as an effective tool for pastoral ministry and evangelization.

  1. SCOPE

If all the dioceses and the religious congregations of Northest region commit themselves to promote SCCs in their respective field of ministry, the Northeast Church will be very relevant and prophetic at the present critical time of the history of the Church.

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119: 105
